Unmet Expectations

Have you ever planned something that you just knew was going to be Pinterest worthy and ended up feeling like you were on an episode of Nailed It? We all have plans for our lives. Sometimes the plans are big like college, a career path, relationships, buying a car or a house. Sometimes the plans are simple like potty training, meal planning, taking an overnight trip with friends, or roasting s'moreos. Our life is flooded with unmet expectations the moment our plans begin to fall apart. We don't make it into a program, we're not offered the job, we're offered a different position than the one that we wanted, the relationship ends, the car is a lemon, the house is a money pit, the kid pees in the floor, we forgot some key ingredients for dinner, someone gets sick, and the epic-ness of two classic treats coming together fails. Unmet expectations. What do we do with them? We can take each blow directly in the face and go down before the bell rings, or we can roll with the punches and make some mid course corrections. Proverbs 16:9 tells us that "We can make our plans but the Lord determines our steps" (NLT). God has plans for us. Plans to prosper us and not harm us, plans to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV). Do we trust that He holds us in the palm of His hand and that He is working all things out for the good of those who love Him and who have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28, NIV)? When we rest in Him and trust Him, when we are spending time with Him in prayer and in His word, it's a lot easier to do that. God tells us in Isaiah that "as heaven is higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts (NIV). When we look at what seems to be an epic fail laying in front of us, let's take a closer look at that unmet expectation and see if maybe God is in the details working things out for our good.

We do just that in this week's episode, Unmet Expectations, as we take a look at what looks like the complete and utter failure of our camping trip. Absolutely no aspect of this trip went as planned. We'll tell you whether we got knocked down, rolled with the punches, or just got medicated and heard from God. We're so excited for you to join us on this journey. BTW, if you don't know what Nailed It is, you're missing out on a great Netflix original filled with other people, just like us, whom are striving to be Pinterest worthy but fail miserably.
